Prof. Dr. Güner Menekşe is a specialist in brain, nerve, and spinal surgery, as well as Gamma Knife treatments.
He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 2002, earning the title of “Medical Doctor.” Between 2002 and 2003, he completed his state service obligation as a “General Practitioner” at Malatya Pütürge State Hospital. He fulfilled his military service as a reserve officer in Çanakkale from 2003 to 2004. He completed his specialty training at Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital and became a “Neurosurgery Specialist” in 2011. From 2011 onward, he worked in the Neurosurgery Clinic of Adana Numune Training and Research Hospital.
Between January and April 2014, he worked as a “Research Fellow” and “Clinical Observer” at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Neurosurgery, in the USA. From 2014 to 2015, he continued his work as a “Clinical Observer” at the Skull Base Surgery Center of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPMC), USA. Starting in 2015, he joined the Neurosurgery Clinic of Ankara Training and Research Hospital and earned the title of “Associate Professor” in the field of Neurosurgery in 2018 after passing the associate professorship exam. Between 2018 and 2019, he worked at Ankara Lokman Hekim Akay Hospital.
Since 2019, he has been working at Koru Ankara Hospital. In 2022, he completed Gamma Knife Radiosurgery training and certification at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPMC) and currently serves as the Head Physician of the Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Center at Koru Hospital. In 2024, he was awarded the title of “Professor” at Yüksek İhtisas University Faculty of Medicine.
As of 2024, he has published 33 articles in international peer-reviewed journals and 12 articles in national peer-reviewed journals, with over 250 citations to his work. He has authored six book chapters and presented more than 200 oral and written papers at various national and international scientific meetings. His Web of Science H-index is 9. He ranked second in the Turkish Neurosurgery Association Competency Exam and earned the “Neurosurgery Competency Certificate.”
He is a member of the Turkish Medical Association, Turkish Neurosurgery Association, The Spine Society of Europe (EUROSPINE), Turkish Neurosurgery Association Neuro-Oncological Surgery Education and Training Group (TURNOG), and Turkish Neurosurgery Association Spinal and Peripheral Nerve Surgery Group. He is fluent in English.
His main areas of interest include neuro-oncology (brain and spinal cord tumors), radiosurgery (Gamma Knife), spinal surgery (lumbar disc herniation, cervical disc herniation, spinal stenosis, spinal fractures), and pediatric neurosurgery.
