    Melatonin is a natural substance found in the human body. It is secreted by the pineal gland located deep within the brain. This gland produces melatonin during the dark phase of the day when we need to rest and prepare for sleep.

     

    Benefits Of Melatonin

    Melatonin has been shown to help with insomnia, jet lag, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), and other disorders related to circadian rhythm disruption. In addition, melatonin has also been used as a treatment for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

     

    Side Effects Of Melatonin

    There are no known side effects of taking melatonin. However, there are some precautions you should take when using melatonin. You should not use melatonin during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Also, do not use melatonin if you have any type of allergy to melatonin or any other medication.

     

    Dosage And Timing

    Melatonin is available as a supplement in pill form. A typical dose is 1 mg taken 30 minutes before bedtime. If you are pregnant or nursing, talk with your doctor first.
