Toothache Treatment Tips
How to get rid of toothaches fast and naturally
A toothache is an intense pain in the jaw that usually comes on suddenly and lasts for several hours. Itâs caused by infection, injury, or inflammation of the tissues surrounding the teeth.
Rinse with warm water
Rinse your mouth out with warm water. This will help loosen any food particles stuck between your teeth and gums. If you have a cold sore, rinse your mouth with saltwater.
Apply an ice pack
If you have a toothache, apply an ice pack to the area. Ice packs work by numbing the nerves in your mouth so that you feel less pain. You can also use a heating pad or heat lamp to relieve the pain.
Take painkillers
If you have a toothache that wont go away with cold compresses, try taking some painkillers. This will help reduce the pain and make it easier to sleep.
Eat foods rich in calcium
Calcium helps strengthen bones and teeth. It also helps prevent muscle spasms and cramps. Foods high in calcium include milk, cheese, yogurt, broccoli, almonds, salmon, sardines, and fortified cereals.
Avoid spicy or acidic food
If you suffer from a toothache, avoid foods with strong flavors such as hot peppers, onions, garlic, and citrus fruits. These foods cause pain by irritating the nerves in your mouth. Instead, eat foods that are low in acidity and high in calcium, such as dairy products, nuts, and dark green vegetables.
