Caesarean Delivery or Normal Delivery?
It is safe to say that this has been a topic of frequent discussion in recent years in our country. It is somewhat controversial to offer a caesarean delivery as an option to the mother when there is no medical reason for it. From both the mother and the baby's perspective, it is best for a vaginal delivery to occur. In reality, a significant portion of deliveries occur naturally with basic support for the mother, resulting in a relatively uncomplicated process for both the mother and the baby. Turning this into a caesarean delivery is actually detrimental to the mother and, as recently realised, to the baby as well.
Therefore, it is crucial to provide accurate information and avoid directing the mother towards a surgical or caesarean delivery. Using a caesarean for medical reasons, as per current medical knowledge, will be healthier for both the mother and the baby.
There is generally no strict opposition towards elective caesarean deliveries. However, when the correct information and healthy guidance is provided, and the true advantages of vaginal delivery for both the mother and the baby are demonstrated, very few mothers opt for a surgical delivery.
Looking at all the processes, the clear advantages of vaginal deliveries for both the baby and the mother in the short and long term have been shown. Therefore, caesarean delivery is not an option but a medical necessity. It should be recommended in case of scientific evidence that it will contribute to the health of both the mother and the baby.
